I never posted any pictures of my large Frangie Pangie ( Plumeria rubra ) or ' Aztec Gold ' tree that I have in my front yard. This is the tree that I have taken all of my clippings from. My Aztec Gold Plumeria rubra is blooming like crazy right now!!

The Plumeris rubra or Aztec Gold Frangie Pangie has been know to grow up to 30 feet tall and does best in full sun to partial shade. The Plumeria blooms are very fragrant!! This is a deciduous tree meaning that it loses it's leaves, leaving an unsightful tree which is the only bad part about it. When in bloom it is amazing though. The Plumeria rubra is drought tolerant making it suitable for xeriscaping!!

Here are some pictures of the beautiful blooms, Enjoy!!

I didnt know there was such a thing. I have made a Frangipani tart but that was basically a almond custard. Do the flowers smell of almonds?

Do you know if the Plumeria rubra is suitable for the Pensacola area? We are in zone 8 bordering on 9. It certainly is a lovely tree, and I am always looking for plants that don't require a lot of water. We don't have an irrigation system, and watering can be quite a chore on an acre of land. As always, love your photos and comments. Your enthusiasm really shows.

Plumeria need warmth tropical type condition. Plenty of sun.
If your area has frost or goes lower than 40 degree temp then you would need to protect it. They are beautiful flowers and lot of them nicely scented. Specifics on growing them can be found on internet on American Plumeria society website. Also there are a few forums (Garden web has one, Maui Plumeria gardens has one also).

My brother in Delray Beach gave me two cuttings. I planted them in Port St Lucie. Hope to see some rewards by next year.
