I can't believe that I haven't done a post on this magnificent specimen yet. It must have somehow fallen between the cracks....It happens. The good part is that it is here now... The Ptychosperma waitianum Palm Tree. I haven't been able to find much information on this Palm Tree but I have seen it called the Giant Palm Tree, Ivory Coast Palm Tree, and the Raffia Palm Tree. I found that it grows to about 15' feet tall in full sun and should be planted 15'-20' feet apart. The Ptychosperma waitianum is often confused with the Ptychosperma burretianum which is a clustering form where as the P. waitianum is solitary or single trunking. If you have any information on this Palm Tree I would love to know what you know.

Back in January 2008 I received some seeds in the mail. I began germination on January 23, 2008 to be exact. I saw 2 sprouts on March 17, 2008. Only one survived. I have been babying this little guy for almost a year now and it is only about 5 inches tall.

The following picture is of the seeds which are located in the lower left corner.

The following picture was taken June 17, 2008.

The following pictures were taken October 30, 2008. These were taken just before I re-potted.

The following pictures were taken October 30, 2008. These are just after I re-potted into a 3 gallon pot.

I found these pictures on the PACSOA website. Click Here to visit.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures, and if you have any information on this Palm Tree please let me know. Thank you very much. See you again next time!

I wish I had some more information for you. Your palm looks like its coming along and you will need some patience. I enjoyed getting caught up with your blog.

Hello from Mauritius.
Your palm is a woodyetia bifurcata.

I am sorry Mauritius, Woodyetia bifurcata is a Foxtail Palm. What I have is a Ptychosperma waitianum. This is some form of a Fishtail Palm. Thank you for the effort though.

This can't have effect in reality, that's what I think.
