I have had my Passion Flower Vine ( Passiflora incarnata ) for a while now in a pot on a shelf. I have been hesitant to incorporate it into my garden on the grounds that it is extremely invasive. Click Here for more information on the Passion Flower Vine.
The other day one of my watering cans started leaking from the bottom. I almost threw it away when I thought of an idea. I will use it to contain my Passion Flower. Basically I will place a pot inside of the watering can. To start, I set a piece of wood on the ground next to my clothesline pole. This is a good barrier piece. Then I cut off the bottom of the leaky watering can. I set the bottom of the watering can on top of the wood piece. I then placed the pot of Passion Flower Vine on top of the bottom of the watering can. Now I have two barrier pieces. Then I placed the body of the watering can over the Passion Flower pot and feed the vine through the top. To finalize my project, I tied the vine to the pole using pieces of bread ties. Now I can have my Passion Flower Vine in my garden without worrying about it spreading, in theory.
I hope this works out. I will keep you updated on my Passion Flower Vine Project. Here are some pictures of my new project.

It is now time for my second update on my first Pineapple Project. My last update was April 10 so it has been a while. My Pineapple is doing fantastic. It seems to be really happy. I water the pineapple daily and have it placed in partial afternoon shade. I would recommend this to anyone who is growing Pineapple. Back in March I started a project that I call Project Air Layering: (Tangerine). I have never attempted to Air Layer anything before so I had no idea what to expect. If you want to see how I started Step by Step then click here.
Today I decided that it was time to check on my project. I pulled out the ladder and headed over to my Tangerine Tree. When I opened the black bag I was surprised to see that the bag was full of roots! I was amazed, it worked! Her are some more Step by Step pictures on what I did next.

This second picture is what it looked like when I opened the black bag. You can see the roots inside the bag if you look closely.
This picture is what it looked like when I removed the black bag completely. Again you can see the roots through the clear bag.
This picture is after I cut the branch off of the Tangerine Tree with the bag still in place.
When I looked closer I noticed that there were two baby Tangerines on the clone. I will remove these so the clone does not use all of it's energy trying to produce delicious Tangerines like it wants to. Better it will use it's energy to produce more roots and support itself.

It is not looking good for my upside down tomato plant. I started this project back in February with high hopes of great tomatoes. You can click here to see pictures from the beginning. My upside down tomato project has produced two batches of tomatoes that were very delicious. They were Hybrid Husky Cherry Red Tomatoes. Now they are gone, I think I had them placed in a spot with not enough sun. I will try again, but this time I will move the bucket into a sunnier spot.

Here are a few Orchid mounts that I am working on at the time. They are not complete yet, I am posting to receive some feedback from you. Let me hear your suggestions.
Living 5 miles from the beach allows me to get drift wood anytime I want. The catch is that I must soak the wood for a week or two to remove all of the salt so I do not kill my plants that I mount to them. But the upside is that driftwood gives an amazing effect, and it being really old just adds the extra character to it!!

O.K. I have been busy!! To start off if you haven't seen the Orchid Project yet please click here to see the beginning first. I have done a lot of work over at my neighbors house since then.
I have completely cleaned out the Orchid house and made it accessible. Now my neighbor can get in there and look and touch her own Orchids again!! It makes me feel really good to know that I have changed her life!! She could not stop telling how her whole outlook on life has changed due to this little project. She walks around with the biggest smile on her face now. She has had these Orchids for many many years and is not able to care for them or their house anymore. It was looking really bad.
I went over there without telling her and cleaned it all up. I re-strapped the roof for her and added some more roof panels that she had laying inside of the Orchid house block here from entering. Then I pulled all of the weeds and got the weed eater in there to clean it up real nice. Then I re-arranged all the Orchids so they looked nice!! When I was all done I went and knocked on her door to show what I have done.
You should have seen her face light up!! I think it was brighter than the SUN!! She kept saying that she couldn't understand why I was doing this. That people my age just don't do this sort of thing. I told her that my mother asked me one day if I was going to be like everybody else. My reply was NO, I don't want to be like everyone else, I want to be me!! She made me some fresh roasted almonds that were the best Almonds I have ever eaten!! She insisted that I was a gift from above!! That made me feel really good inside! These are the rewards I look for, I want you to smile that's all!!
Well, the Orchids are doing fantastic!! I have been taking regular care for them. I just wish I knew what they are. The neighbor doesn't remember it has been so long and she has had several strokes. Here are the pictures of the NEW and IMPROVED Orchid House Project!! Enjoy!!

I am a sucker for deals!! I found this purple Phalaenopsis Orchid on sale for $5.00. This Orchid is in pretty bad shape though and is another one with no name. The way I look at it is it looks bad now but what about later? With some good caring this Orchid will be beautiful again!!
As you can see in the first pictures the Purple Phalaenopsis Orchid was not even in the pot, it was just laying on top of the Orchid mix. The Flowers are not very healthy looking either, one is even shriveling up. One of the leaves has a big crease in it and another has had the tip cut off. This poor Orchid has been mistreated.
In the last three pictures I have re-potted the Orchid in a much better Orchid mix than it came in. I gave it a good watering and a little bit of food. While I was outside today I noticed that my Silver Dollar Gum Tree ( Eucalyptus cinerea ) was outgrowing it's stake. While I was re-staking and re-tying the Silver Dollar Gum some pieces were removed by accident. I figured instead of tossing them I should attempt to propagate them by air layering them. I just want to see if I can do it, and if so I would love to have 2 of them. I photographed the process to answer any questions.
The first picture is of the piece that I am using. It was the best piece.
The second picture is where I shaved the first layer of the stick off with my pocket knife. I did not want to go to deep but I did want to remove all of the greenish color. Then I applied a powder root hormone to the wound I have just made. Take care not to waste to much time between wounding and hormone and wrapping. You do not want the wound to dry out.
The third picture is of the wrapping. After I applied the root hormone I wrapped the wound with wet Sphagnum moss. You want to soak the moss and then wring it out before application.
The forth picture is placing the wet moss wrapped wound into a plastic bag. The plastic bag is used to hold the moisture in during propagation. The wound must remain wet at all times or else it will callous over and not work.
The final picture is of the final wrapping. After placing the bandaged wound in the plastic bag I wrapped it one more time. This time I used tin foil to block out the sunlight. The wound must remain dark as well as wet. If all goes as planned in a few weeks when I remove the tin foil I should see roots in the plastic bag. Then I can plant the newly propagated Silver Dollar Gum in a pot to grow up and add it's wonderful fragrance to my yard!!
