A Yard In Fort Pierce

Today I noticed that my Octopus Orchid ( Encyclia cochleata ) has another bloom on it. My Octopus Orchid is doing very well mounted to a piece of driftwood. I keep this Orchid in the shade most of the time but it gets a little bit of sun. I water daily to keep the moss damp. If you want to see my other pictures of my Octopus Orchid then click here. Finally one of my favorite Orchids the Octopus Orchid ( Encyclia cochleata ) or the Cockleshell Orchid is blooming. I was given the Octopus Orchid from a friend of mine about 3 months ago. I mounted the Cockleshell Orchid on a nice piece of drift wood that I found at the beach a few years ago. Once I mounted this beautiful Orchid it started to show signs of growth. I thought to myself here is a happy Orchid.

The Octopus Orchid ( Encyclia cochleata ) gets its name from the Flowers shape, the lip is the body and the petals are the tentacles. This is a very interesting flower with a gorgeous color scheme. Here are a few Orchid mounts that I am working on at the time. They are not complete yet, I am posting to receive some feedback from you. Let me hear your suggestions.

Living 5 miles from the beach allows me to get drift wood anytime I want. The catch is that I must soak the wood for a week or two to remove all of the salt so I do not kill my plants that I mount to them. But the upside is that driftwood gives an amazing effect, and it being really old just adds the extra character to it!!
