I was given this Bromeliad as a gift from my neighbor about a year ago. We never knew the name of it and I never really did any research to find out. That all changed when I was out back cooking dinner on the grill. I looked over and was struck by this awesome bloom sticking out of the middle of it. I have never seen this particular bloom before. I grabbed my camera and snapped a few pictures. Then I went and did some research and found that the name of this Bromelaid is the Urn Plant (Aechmea fasciata). The Urn Plant also goes by the names Silver Vase Bromeliad or Aechmea.

The Silver Vase Bromeliad doesn't need much attention at all. There is no need to water the soil as long as you keep water in the Urn. It is recommended that you replace the water in the Urn once a week. That is really the only thing you need to do for this plant.

The Aechmea will not produce seeds. It will grow pups that you can remove after they have reached a third or half the size of the mother plant. Simply plant these pups on there own and they will grow.

Here are some pictures of my Urn Plant in bloom.

It is now time for another update on my Tangerine Tree Air Layering Project. I began this project March 24, 2008. If you would like to read my previous posts on this project please CLICK HERE. In the previous posts I explain step by step how to successfully complete an Air Layer Project.

In this post I am excited to announce that my Tangerine clone is baring fruit! They are still very small but they are still there. Here are some pictures of my Tangerine Tree Air Layer Project Update.

This is a shot of the Tangerine Tree clone with a 20 oz water bottle next to it for size comparison.

This is a close up of the leaves.

These are close up's of the baby Tangerines forming.

Now it is time for an update on my Indian Blanket Flower (Gaillardia pulchella). If you would like to read my first post with all of the information please CLICK HERE.

This picture was taken 7-13-2008. This is how it all started.

This picture was taken 3-21-2009. Wow, what a jump. This was completely unexpected since after I planted the Indian Blanket Flower it died. Or so I thought.

These little guys helped me out alot.

This picture was taken 3-29-2009. This Flower is really growing fast now.

This picture was taken 5-2-2009. Now I have a full blown Indian Blanket Flower Patch. Looks awesome doesn't it!

It is time for an update on my 4 banger Screw Pine (Pandanas utilis). My last post on this one was January 19 2008. If you would like to read it please CLICK HERE. I have this set planted in my front yard about 25 feet from the road. Since then I have added a limestone boulder wall across the front section and surrounded the Screw Pine as well. I have added a 20 oz water bottle for size comparison. It looks like it has almost doubled in size, and it looks very happy. Here are the pictures of my 4 banger Screw Pine Tree's (Pandanas utilis).

This was also taken at the same time.

Well it has been a long time since I have done an update on my 2 banger Screw Pine (Pandanas utilis). My last post was back in Jan. 2008. If you wish to see this post (which I recommend because it has pictures of all 3 stages of this tree's life) then CLICK HERE. I wasn't to sure if this guy was going to make it or not because of the orange color in the leaves and I didn't notice any new growth for a long time. As you can see there was substancial growth over the last year. Here are the pictures to explain for me.

This picture was taken January 13 2008.

Okay, I am not sure what is happening with one of my Screw Pines (Pandanas utilis). It is about 2 feet tall and seems to be trunking and branching already. This process normally takes years to begin. I can't figure it out, maybe it is just a show off. If anyone has any information about why this is happening so early I would love to hear from you. As for now here are some pictures of my show off Screw Pine (Pandanas utilis). To see my other Screw Pine posts Click Here.

I have added a 20 oz water bottle for size comparison.

Looking inside you can see the new growth forming. These will become branches.

Looking at the base it seems to be trunking already.

I hope you enjoyed this post. See you again next time and remember to share your knowledge if you know why this is happening so early.
