Well, it has been waay to long since my last post. I am very sorry about that. I have been super busy lately.  But rest assure I am still hard at work creating my tropical paradise.

I have been given a gift from a dear friend of mine yesterday. She picked this little gem up at a plant sale over a year ago. I was at her house when I saw it. It was a Variegated Elephant Ear ( Colocasia esculenta 'Elepaio' ). I have never seen one before and I instantly fell in love.  I asked her to break me one off when it began to throw pups and she replied " No problem".  Well to my surprise her son hand delivered it to me yesterday.

To be honest , it was over a year ago since I have seen this Variegated Elephant Ear and I had completely forgotten about it.  So you can imagine my surprise when it was handed to me. That made it extra special to me.  I will take extra good care of this one!

The Variegated Elephant Ear ( Colocasia esculenta 'Elepaio' ) can survive in sun to shade conditions and is a tropical plant. It is a rare Elephant Ear that is named after the rare Hawaiian fly catcher bird 'Elepaio'. This tropical plant requires consistently moist soil which makes it great for bogs and water gardens.

Here is a picture of my new  Variegated Elephant Ear ( Colocasia esculenta 'Elepaio' )

I hope you enjoyed my post. See you again next time!!

I have had this Banana Tree for a long time now. I never took any pictures because I was not sure it was going to make it. This poor little guy has seen many hard times, my dog trampling it, me stepping on it, and the lawn mower even had something to do with it. Now I am sure it is a survivor so here it is.

This is my Variegated Blood Banana Tree ' Rojo ' ( Musa sumatrana ) also known as Red Banana Tree. I love the coloring in the leaves of this Banana Tree. The variegation is red, it reminds me of a red camouflage. The fruit is not edible though but that is a small price to pay for the feel that this tree gives to the garden. The Variegated Blood Banana Tree 'Rojo' grows to heights of 8' to10' and should be spaced 6' to 8' apart when planting multiples. The Blood 'Rojo' likes to be planted in full sun and needs regular watering.

Here are some pictures of my Variegated Blood Banana Tree 'Rojo' (Musa sumatrana).

I hope you enjoyed the pictures. See you again next time!

Variegated Tapioca

A few months ago I was at my fathers house and notice a plant that was amazing. I had to have it. This plant was the Variegated Tapioca ( Manihot esculenta 'Variegata' ). This plant looks amazing with it's red stems and unique variegation. I am not sure if this is edible or not so if you have any input I would greatly appreciate it. The Variegated Tapioca plant grows to about 6 feet tall and does well in full sun to partial shade. The Manihot esculenta 'Variegata' is easily propagated from stem cuttings. This is the process that I used to get mine. It looked a little rough for a while but looks very good now. Here are a few pictures of my Variegated Tapioca ( Manihot esculenta 'Variegata' ).

Thank you for stopping in. I hope you enjoyed the post!

Finally we are getting some rain around here!! It rained yesterday too. We need this rain alot here due to all of the fires we have throughout the state. Now the Everglades are on fire. It is getting out of hand and the rain should be a huge help to all of the dedicated Fire Fighters that are out there risking it all to stop these horrendous fires. I sure hope it continues to rain for a few more days. They can use all the help they can get!! Besides, we need a good soaking here, the ground is very dry and we have water restrictions so needless to say the grass isn't much to look at these days.

I was so excited to have another day of rain that I ran outside during a break in the rain and snapped a few shots for you to enjoy!! The last two pictures are of my Williams Hybrid Banana leaf and my Variegated Pink Lemon Tree bud!! Here they are, Have a Great Day!!

My best score yet!! I have heard of this plant for quite some time now and have been very unsuccessful in finding it. This is the variegated Sea Grape ( Coccoloba uvifera ). Sea Grape grows every where around here and I have been looking at every one I see and never see a variegated one. This form of Sea Grape is extremely rare!!

Well I have found one at the Heathcote Botanical Sale that was held this past weekend in Fort Pierce, Fl. at the Heathcote Botanical Gardens. This extremely rare plant came with a hefty price tag. Me and my buddy Brandan from Another Yard In Fort Pierce split it, and we will air layer it to get two plants out of it. It is well worth it since I believe that we are the only two people in town that have this very rare plant!!

Here are the pictures of the beautiful Variegated Sea Grape ( Coccoloba uvifera ). Enjoy!!

I was browsing through Wal-Mart's garden center when I found Variegated Pink Lemon Tree's for $10.00. The Pink Citrus limon tree stands about 2 feet tall. I thought this was a score so you know I picked one up. I planted the Variegated Pink Lemon Tree next to my Tangerine Tree. Before you know it I will have some very delicious pink lemonade!! Here are a few pictures of the new Variegated Pink Lemon Tree ( Citrus limon ).
