I have just planted my 3.5' Himalayan Fishtail Palm ( Caryota maxima ) or Mountain Fishtail Palm that I purchased from the plant sale at F.I.T.. I planted the fishtail in the back corner of my yard with the face caddy corner facing in. The Caryota maxima is monocarpic, meaning that it will die after it flowers. We can not tell exactly when it will flower but it could take 50 years or more to happen. The Himalayan Fishtail Palm can reach heights of over 40 feet and should be spaced 30 -40 feet apart. Here are some pictures of the Himalayan Fishtail Palm, enjoy!!

Hello,
you wrote: "The Caryota maxima is monocarpic".
Since about 20 years I know a giant over 65 feet high Caryota maxima "Himalaya" in Kathmandu that flowers and fruits every year since I know it.
